Me ha encantado la estructura, la historia cada vez me ha ido atrapando más (aunque engancha desde el principio) y los temas que trata son interesantes. Además, releer el prólogo al final, teniendo el contexto, es bastante satisfactorio.

This is not a fast read. The world building is immense and complicated. The characters can be difficult but I quickly became invested in them. There are many twists and turns and the author continues to keep the reader guessing.

As someone who primarily reads sci-fi and avoids fantasy, I was completely drawn into this book! I found it imaginative and creative, telling an original story with fantastic works building. I really appreciated the attention to different societal structures.  In a lot of ways, I would classify it as more sci-fi than fantasy and definitely the first book I've read that's made the case for the genres being combined.

I’m giving this a 4 for now. I was confused for about half of this book, and I need to do some reading on the ending. I think the “plot twist” must’ve gone right over my head bc nothing shocked me lol

It starts with the end of the world. Again.

This is an earth that is angry with its inhabitants. Terrorizing it with shakes and eruptions constantly threatening humanity's extinction.

We follow three narratives: Damaya, Syenite, & Essun.

Damaya, a young girl, thrown out of her family, and grappling with control in her powers which is treated as a curse by all people including herself.

Syenite, a young powerful woman, learning the harsh realities of the world they live in.

Essun, a woman living an ordinary life, came home one day to find her son brutally murdered by her husband and a missing daughter. Now, Essun must track them down and seek revenge all while the world ends around her.

It's supposed to be post-apocalyptic mixed with fantasy but I can't shake the feeling that this is the same earth we're living in, in the not so distant future, with a dash of magic.

The writing style takes time to get used to. There are sections written purely in second person. Surprisingly enough, I enjoyed reading the more experimental pieces. It doesn't distract but adds more to the immersion of the story.

Not sure if this is spoilers so I'll give as little information as possible but I got goosebumps when I found out how the three perspectives intersect.

The only reason its 4 instead of 5 stars is because it was kind of hard to get into because the world is so different and complex. The plot twists were so unexpected and I love them.
