3.5… possibly 4. Audible narration is what got me. Should have read it instead of listening to it.

Cold & Deadly is the first book I've read by Ms Anderson, and honestly, I wasn't certain what to expect. But this was a great read, as not only was it suspenseful, exciting and a little intriguing. But it gave a glimpse into what certain departments in the FBI do. Especially the Crisis Negotiation Unit, and it was clear this story was very well researched. Not to mention the characters were extremely well fleshed out and the romance between Dominic and Ava engaging. Although not to the point of distracting from the hunt for a serial killer who is systematically killing off FBI agents, and there certainly was enough twists and turns along the way to keep me guessing, and hooked. And therefore I would happily recommend this story to others.

**I was kindly provided with a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

I read Toni Anderson's first Cold Justice book, Cold Dark Place, and was not wowed. The plot was unbelievable,it made vigilante justice sound like a good thing, and had the FBI seriously breaking the law in order to get things done. I didn't know if I'd give her another try, but when this book was 99 cents as a KDD, I decided to see if her stories had improved after a few books. Overall I enjoyed this story a lot more than Cold Dark Place. It had fewer unbelievable plot points, and didn't play quite as fast and loose with FBI procedures (although it still did to a certain extent). The suspense plot was good, except the resolution was a little bit of a let down. The romance had some insta-lust going on, but was decent. Cold and Deadly was entertaining and I may read more of this newer off-shoot series.

FBI Supervisory Special Agent Dominic Sheridan and rookie agent Ava Kanas are thrown together when agents begin dying and Dominic’s life is at stake. Ava has been assigned as his bodyguard after she almost lost her job. If she can keep him alive she just might hold continue to fulfill her dream as an FBI agent. .

Dominic is an expert negotiator in the Crisis Negotiation Unit, but falls short when it comes to stopping a maniacal killer. Ava has a lot to prove since she lost her father due a brutal murder and is also dealing with the death of her mentor. The pair don’t get along, except the sparks that fly between them that soon spiral out of control.

Cold & Deadly introduces the Cold Justice: Crossfire series. The predecessor series, Cold Justice, is in my TBR, as I only have been able to read the first in the series so far, A Cold, Dark Place. I love how Toni Anderson uses federal agents in her series as they are just the types of shows I enjoy whenever I watch television.

There was a fairly equal mix of passion, intrigue and danger in this book. Both Ava and Dominic are greatly affected by former agent Van Santos’s death. This shared concern is a terrific catalyst in helping the pair work so closely together. At they get closer to the killer, they get even closer to each other. I truly loved Ava and Dominic together making this story an excellent read. I and am eager to read the next book in the series, Colder Than Sin.
