This was my first Thomas King novel, and it won't be my last! It was a unique and wonderful story, with so many interesting and quirky characters - characters that I will continue thinking of and wondering what they are up to :).
A wonderfully written, so important a subject, delivered in a way that makes you really pay attention to the environmental disasters happening around us. This is because you aren't hit over the head with them, but they enter through the heart as you empathize with the characters who draw you right in.
Good tour through corporate Toronto and some of it's highlight restaurants, even the Briars got mention! Some of the beach & pools seems like the islands off of Tofino. So it's definitely a Canadian set book, with world wide repercussions. I heard an interesting interview with him saying that the chemical in The Ruin had actually past muster for agri-use in Germany, but was caught by others before it was widely used. It would have completely killed all vegetation on earth! Yikes.
Great interesting storyline about a very important subject!

The Back of the Turtle is a page turner, Thomas King has a beautiful way with words.
Interesting, but a little odd in places. It’s kind of magical realism, although I think most of the magic ends up having real explanations in the end. I’d be hard pressed to say what the book was about. There are definitely themes of redemption and renewal. Overall, I enjoyed the story.
Five stars because there was something very beautiful, steady and emotional about this book. For me this book was about finding our place in our own self. What Does life mean to each of us? More questions than answers, and people that come together under difficult and unusual circumstances.
We want to save the environment but Dorian Asher is like a mirror To our own desire for cheap and easy access to all that we want in life, but at what cost?

Had a great time savoring this over nearly a year. Banger.
Well written but but too slow of a pace for my taste!!
