This was unnecessarily long and I thought the main characters were kind of annoying
When their flight has an overnight layover, Emily Foster has a one-night stand with the man sitting next to her on the plane that she is immediately attracted to. A year later, she is hired at her dream reporting job only to find out that the CEO of the company is the man she had a one-night stand with.
If you know me at all, you know this is not something that I would ever think to pick up. I am participating in The Literary Love Book Club which my friend hosts since I trust her rom-com recommendations. Most members of the club, including the host, hated this book as well, so I'm not alone in this, but I think it's safe to say that this still is not my kind of book.
What did I not like about this book, you ask? The main character is a Mary Sue who is "not like other girls" and reminds the audience of that frequently. The love interest is a terrible possessive jerk who has no redeeming qualities except that he is apparently attractive and rich. From the moment the two meet again and then for the entirety of the story, he has to have everything his way or he takes it out on her. This is an abusive relationship that we are supposed to root for. They talk about how in love with each other and how they make each other laugh, but the only time they laugh in the book is when they have a recurring r*pe joke that they refer to a few times, which needless to say was not funny. The side characters in the book are blatant stereotypes - the gay best friend and the repressed mom friend. The characters never care about what the clearly more important things are. The love interest cannot say a sentence without dropping an f-bomb; I swear like a sailor but that got old extremely quickly. The writing in this is piss-poor. The author cannot establish a single trait or desire for a character without immediately claiming the opposite. The main example of this is that the love interest claims to be a workaholic with no time to establish a relationship, yet when the main character suggests they meet infrequently or far out in the future, he always says that he has to see her immediately and for large swaths of time. There is not a single surprise in the story when it comes to the plot outside the romance; there is a singular candidate as to who could be behind the trouble and it turns out it was them, no red herring or anything (although there was another character that would have been a perfect surprise villain). The only redeeming factor for this book was that it was formatted so that the pages went by quickly. This was a garbage fire and I'm glad it's over!

Dear god this book. This took me 4 tries to get through, and then I only finished by listening to the audio. I love LOVE Tristan and Elliot but Jameson is hands down my least favorite of the Miles boys, and Christopher quickly dropped to third when he exhibited Jameson like behavior. Once I got to the end and saw Jameson’s more fully developed character and trauma/ideas of who he needed to be, I was more forgiving but he was an unmitigated asshole with almost 0 explanation throughout most of the book and Emily was kind of a wet blanket for me. This just didn’t do it for me but the Takeover and the Casanova made up for it
2.75 stars.
I listened to the audiobook and found the heroine very immature; this book is a HR nightmare in the making. When she is mad at him about sth he said and she is talking to herself, I know for a fact that he was right. She left and has no right to say that she deserves better when she did not do the mature thing and sit down and talk to him. I found it ridiculous that she was very forgiving of her ex but when it comes to Jim she is very judgemental just because she is insecure.
Jim, the hero is also very hurtful and out of touch with reality. He brings out the worst in her; they do not need to be together.
it has the miscommunication trope which I really hate.
Very forgettable in general. the beef with Ferrera was stupid. He treated her like shit when the news broke out that she was cheating. The relationship with Claudia was a little unnecessary.

Some parts were okay, the idea overall was good, the tropes i enjoy, the execution?? Not so much
He kinda redeems himself at the end, bbut gosh what an annoying lil asshole.. I did not like him.
I heard that the second one is way better so i'm hoping to get that ... but yeah

I was so excited about this book as I’ve seen so many good reviews about it. I loved the first 20%, however from there it just went downhill for me. Both the MC were so childish and temperamental.
I did like that the FMC stood her ground a few times but it was all for show. The MMC was an absolute dick at times, and as much as I like a toxic grump he was way too much for me! I personally couldn’t see any redeeming features in him and was hoping she wouldn’t take him back.
The mole for miles media was also very anti climactic, I was hoping there would be a big twist and someone unexpected would have the been the leak.
I also found the writing sometimes hard to follow as one minute we’d be in one scene and with no warning we’d be a few days later.
Tristian was probably one of my favourite characters so I do think I’ll give The Takeover a read at some point.
