Wow! It's not often that a book so completely entrances me that a cat jumping up into my lap almost gives me a heart attack. This book has such an eerie yet realistic feel that I was tensing all at the little sounds an older home makes in the dead of the night. I want to give Ms. Arden kudos for writing the best book that I have had the pleasure of reading in 2015.
I just loved Adele. In a lot of ways, she is your typical sixteen-year-old. After being uprooted from her home in New Orleans, all she wants to do is get back to her home and her father. She is shocked by the changes brought on by the Storm to her home and her city. Nothing is going exactly like she expected from being attacked by a crow in her kitchen to discovering that since her school has been destroyed that she will be attending a catholic school where all the rich kids go.
Not only was the character of Adele amazing in the way that she grows and changes throughout the book but I really enjoyed ;meeting' all the secondary characters. None of them turn out to be what I expected from my first impression.
I am really happy that THE CASQUETTE GIRLS is just the first book in the series as I can't wait to dive back into Ms.Arden's world. I highly recommend this book to any of my readers who enjoy young adult paranormal. I am sure that you will enjoy it as much as I did.

This book was not what I expected what so ever. It was the perfect twist of New Orleans and the supernatural. I loved the mixture of the modern time and the flashbacks to the past. It was really interesting to read about both Adele's ancestor and the casquette girls, and Adele herself. The mixture of witchcraft and vampires was really unique, and it's been way too long since I have read a good vampire book! I had a few issues with the ending, but i'm hoping to re-read the newer version and see if that satisfies me.

I liked this book. It was simple, yet catchy and enjoyable. Perhaps bit silly as well but then again, luckily, it was not one of those vampire books with forced seriousness and drama. So very nice and light read for all fans of paranormal and mystery.

This book made me feel like I was right there in New Orleans with Adele. I love when I read a book and can actually feel like I am living in it, and that is exactly what this book did for me.
The Author went to great lengths with her research, the writing was phenomenal, and the editing was perfect.
It would be very hard to go back to a place that was once your home and try to start all over from the ground up, but that is exactly what Adele and her father do. Adele finds out she has more ties to New Orleans then she could have not even imagined, when she comes across a journal from one of her ancestors.
I could not put this book down once I got started on it; I had to know what was going to happen next, so hang on folks because this is such a wonderful journey you will be happy you took! I recommend this book to anyone who loves to live virtually through a book.
Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours offered a copy of this book to me for my honest and un-biased opinion.

God, I love this series so much. Will review more later.
Initial Impressions 9/12/18: DNF @ 50%
THE CASQUETTE GIRLS is a 500+ page book (17+ hours on audiobook) so I still had 9+ hours left when I decided not to finish it. I made it halfway and still really nothing much has happened... The intro took forever and things took so long that I just got bored. Even at 50%, I barely know what the purpose of the book was. I thought this was supposed to be witchy and Adele randomly discovers that she can move metal (how it took her that long to realize that everything she was moving was metal, and that someone else had to tell her that UGH. That was ridiculously obvious) and then that's it for a while. Okay, she can move metal and...? That's all we get in the first half. By now we should at least know why or what a connection is or something to keep me interested. She experiments and hides it from everyone else and that's it.
We get more info on the vampire side of things, but nothing except for exposition and old letters until 50% in as well.
Knowing how long this book is, I think it really could have used more editing. We could have condensed a LOT in the first half because it lost my interest completely. There was a lot about the arrival back to New Orleans, the description of destruction, intro to schools, side characters, etc that could have been combined in with other dialogue or action to make it feel less like an info dump. The first few chapters were JUST about coming back to New Orleans and it had already felt like too much at that point. I wanted to keep going to see if things would pick up and it just wasn't what I was looking for.

The perfect fall read!
Witches, vampires, and New Orleans. It’s a perfect fall read! The story was so intriguing! It was historical and modern. It was everything I wanted in a book for October.

Perfect book to read in October. And I loved reading about my one true love - the city of New Orleans!
This started off a little weak for me. It felt very juvenile for the first few chapters. I was not looking forward to the love triangle being played out. As the story started to deepen, I was pulled farther and farther in. I loved the descriptions of the city, as well as the emphasis on female friendship. I didn't realize it was intended to be a series, so I was initially frustrated by the ending.
Update 5/4/18: reread this before jumping into the sequel. It holds up well, and I was able to gel more with the characters from the start this time around.
