I might add a longer review later (if I remember) but I just wanted to say that this book is *amazing.* If you love paranormal YAs, you'll love this! And even if you don't normally like paranormal books, you might like it anyway! Alys Arden obviously worked so hard on this book, and it shows. Brilliant debut.

I honestly loved this book! I'm really addicted to stuff set in New Orleans. I've been dying to visit for years, mainly for the mystery that surrounds the city, and the city's ability to withstand everything and come back stronger! :)
This book, we meet Adele, daughter of a sculptor. She's returning to New Orleans after being sent to Paris for school while the Hurricane Katrina raged in the south. She returns to find her house a mess, her school closed, and her best friend staying in California. Now she's going to prep school, working at an empty restaurant, and oh yeah, she has powers. She also has three new men in her life.
To be honest, I liked the twists and turns of this book. I like how well the author crafted a spooky vibe and carried it throughout the novel. I like how they added elements of reality and fantasy to craft a really grounded story that you can basically believe to be true. Adele is a great character and the situations she goes through in the book, both humorous, and scary really help her character develop and rise from the page.
I think this a really well done debut novel from this author, and I am very excited for Book 2! I think this series has serious potential!

The Casquette Girls was an intriguing book. I've always been drawn to books based in New Orleans, add vampire and witches? I'm hooked! Adele went through a lot in this book, I was impressed by her courage and wit.
My feelings on Isaac and Nico were torn! I couldn't choose, both boys had my heart. Love triangles, oof.
The historical portion of this book was well written, and the audio book was definitely the way to go!

First thing I did after finishing this books was checking goodreads to see if there would be a sequel. Guess what? There is! The only thing we have so far is the title (The Romeo Catchers – which sounds very interesting) but I’m excited anyway!
Reading The Casquette Girls was such an immersive experience! I had never read a story that takes place in New Orleans but I think this was the best one to start with: I fell in love with the city through Alys Arden’s words. Everything seemed so real and hypnotizing, The Casquette Girls truly transmits the reader the essence of this magical and oh-so-full-of-life city!
With some unexpected twist and turns the plot was very gripping, as were the characters. Although there are a few details I think could’ve been more worked on… The love triangle (beware, there’s a love triangle guys!) was “comme ci, comme ça”, never during my reading experience did I feel even slightly sure about any of Adele’s choices… And Emilio’s plot twist would’ve contributed a lot more to the story if it had been darker. But I can see a reason for it not be, since there’s a sequel coming out and there’s lots of angles that can be worked on about this character…
All in all, this was pretty intense. If you’re ever in the mood for a Halloween-ish read or even just a good book to escape “real life” for a bit: this is your guy! Or book… I don’t really know how to adapt this expression, ups ;)
The Casquette Girls brings New Orleans and Paris to you in just 560 pages!

New Orleans? Vampires? Witches? All three things that I love.
The best part about the book for me was the magic. I found to really believable the way Adele came into her powers. It was such a joy to read. I loved the mythology, the friendship between Dee and Adele, and the descriptions of NOLA. Overall such a fun perfect book!!

Probably more like 2.5 stars tbh. This just kept going downhill the longer it went on. It had too much going on, a main character who was about as interesting as a paper napkin, and was just overall a blah book.
Eh. I expected so much more. The atmosphere and aesthetic was wonderful - just what I would expect of a southern gothic novel. The characters were fine too, especially Adele, Isaac and Desirée. The most annoying thing was the love triangle because I just couldn't get it, and well - the plot twist wasn't that much of a surprise and not very original in my opinion. It could have worked if it had been done differently (less clues so the expectation wouldn't be so high), but this is a solid book, not amazing but definitely above average, and I enjoyed it most of the time.
