This was so amazing! i can't wait to read the next book that comes out next month. I was so excited as I read this, excited to read what was going to happen next all the way to the end. I read most of the book in the last two days.
What a delightful escape to read during the COVID-19 pandemic. I think I shall continue on with book 2!

Love this book! Of course, I adore the real story that inspired this book. so fascinating. And New Orleans is one of my favorite places. The author clearly knows the city. The characters are well done and I love a good vampire story. Overall, excellent!
I loved it up until near the end
Then, the ping-ponging love interests lost their believability. And took away from the story, which was very good. He's the one. No, he's the one. I liked the story better when it concentrated on the power and bravery of the characters.

As a recent transplant to New Orleans and an employee of the Archdiocese, it was really cool seeing all of the places where I live and work described in such a fun and exciting story!! Plus, anyone who has ever seen the attic at the Ursuline Convent could certainly believe that there might be a few supernatural beings lurking around...
This was quite good. I didn't know what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised and quite entertained. The story was good, the plot moved along at a nice pace, and the characters were interesting. Setting was particularly well done: New Orleans just in the aftermath of "the Storm" was depicted so vividly. It was a fine reminder of just how much damage was done, how many lives affected, and just how much still remains to be done nearly a decade later.
I don't want to say too much about the plot except that it's compelling and interesting and it kept me reading; it involves magic and supernatural creatures. Fans of this genre will particularly eat up "The Casquette Girls."

16-year-old Adele is eager to make it back to storm ravaged New Orleans even though the majority of residents are still not back in town, there's almost no electricity throughout town, and a curfew has been imposed to try and curb crime. She and her father are ready to get back to some resemblance of a normal life even if it means a new high school for Adele and now an underground speak-easy for her father. There's a lot of strange things happening in town especially around Adele. With a number of new residents she's unsure if she's the focus of these strange happenings or if they are just happening around her. Finding a long forgotten relative's diary only adds to the mystery as Adele and her new friends try to save the town they love. A really great start to the series but there's more to come. Can't wait to continue the series!
The only reason I’m interested in finishing it is because it’s in Nola. But I stopped reading it and went to another book, and after that book I completely forgot about this one and started a whole new one, which I think says a lot about how interested I am in this story. I gave it a few days before actually dnfing it, but I still don’t really care to finish it.
