Looking at something in neutral tones and seeing all the colorful hues around it. It also feels a bit optimist encouraging a pessimist. It's a good book that offers color words and descriptions. The story goes from a wintery walk to a cozy indoor fire. This would be a good book for early elementary.

Reviewed from a library copy.

This book was so beautiful, but just not the right fit for my toddlers at storytime. It's a lovely book about looking on the brightside and finding color even on the dullest of days.

I really love the illustrations in this book and also the message. Sometimes a friend can provide a new perspective to turn a gray sky silver.

As a painter I really appreciate how this book shows to observe colors you see and not what you think you see and to appreciate the beauty that is overlooked as ordinary!

This was beautifully done, and I think it's never too early to start undoing children's cognitive distortions.

Beautiful, dreamy illustrations and a wonderful message! I really love the phrase "stomps of green", what a great image!

Sometimes the winter months can be really gray and long and this book is a great reminder to look for the little bits of color, joy, and coziness every day. It is also a great example of friendship and support when someone is feeling down. The illustrations could be used to compare and contrast body language and emotions. I think this book is a fun way to bring in some color to a gray day.

Two friends look a little deeper into a "day so gray" and find all kinds of splashes of colors waiting there as they trek through the woods, gaze into the fire, and cozy up with some hot cocoa. A beautiful encouragement to look for color everywhere, even in these gray days of winter.
