I think this book was SO well-written. It did a super good job of being realistic about both the consequences of not addressing climate change but also about how difficult/how many solutions still need to be figured out, and how they need to make financial sense for the average person to incorporate(in the world, not just in wealthy countries), otherwise it won't work.

Minus a half star because the "what you can do" chapter at the end was too short/unspecific to bring people to action after spending an entire book convincing them to want change.

Would recommend, both to people who already care about climate change and to people who don't.

I totally recommend everyone read this book. It's not preachy, happily.
It's not without it's faults, but is very well written.
It does an amazing job of illustrating the huge challenge ahead for us but not in a fatalistic way.

Goed geschreven.
Uitgebreid overzicht, en luchtig genoeg zodat het niet aanvoelt als een droge opsomming.
Interessant, zeker omdat het voor mensen die nog niet veel met klimaatverandering bezig zijn ook een zeer goede introductie is.

When I was a teenager I used to think Bill Gates was one of the most evil men on the planet but now I'm older I can't remember why I held this view. While he us obscenely wealthy, he gives much of what he has away and has done a lot of good through his foundation. I also find him worth listening to on the big problems facing humanity as he has interesting ideas, so it's no surprise this book is a realistic assessment of the climate challenges with sensible ideas about what can be done. There's a good balance between stating how bad things could be without action and optimism about the potential solutions if we collectively pull our fingers out.

Bill Gates knows himself to be an imperfect messenger of this information but that doesn't take away from his intention to help solve the climate crisis.

The book starts with a basic guide to climate change, It's easily understandable and broken down into chapters covering each concept, why, and how climate change is happening.
Gates invests in much of this technology but provides an unbiased look at all the clean energy technologies.

Gates's main premise is we need to get down to ZERO carbon emissions and that technological evolution is the only way to do this. He explains exactly what we need to happen and more importantly how soon.

This is an important book as it has the opportunity to influence people who might see the opportunities that these new technological breakthroughs will bring.
