Candyland Retelling

Well, I finished it. And while it was entertaining, there are some reasons why I’m not rating it higher.

First off, I want to say that this is a really good idea. The author put a lot of time and effort into building the world and backstory. I really liked that.

But we have a very dark story, a very traumatic story. And an FMC who’s mind is apparently still 13 years old because most of her thoughts and what she says are childish. I’m meant to be convinced that this woman is a badass and yet every time she says something stupid or has these eye rolling thoughts it drags me out of the story.

I’m just not convinced. The way their dialogue is written is very childish, like angsty teenagers. Not full grown adults with the weight of the world on their shoulders. If the dialogue had been more mature, I definitely would have liked this book more.

This read a lot like a polished Wattpad post. And while I stuck with it to see where it would go, I’m not going to continue the series.

Such a unique and creative premise, I absolutely loved what the author has done with this book. Supernatural, dark romance, horror and plenty of trigger warnings, this has the making for great series. I wasn’t sure if the series would be a very long walk through the board game but the author completely changed the story with that ending and left us with much more. This isn’t just a walk-through of a board game, there’s a lot going on all around them, trekking through the game is kind of minuscule when compared to other things.

There are quite a few twists and turns and a few actually surprised me, which I loved. I’m interested to see how the story plays out after that new revelation.

I love how there was, of course, the two main love interests but there are also side (and also main characters) that played just as an important role in the story. In fact, I found a lot of the side characters a bit more interesting than the main characters. Well, just the FMC. I still don’t know how I feel about her. I liked her but then she made a decision that made me not like her and I feel like she needs to win my heart again. Maybe I’m just difficult to please. However, I did enjoy the love interests and I want to see how their story plays out.

The most important part of my review: Read. The. Trigger. Warnings. Know your limits. A lot of these made sense for the story so just be aware. I had no issue with any of them but everyone is different so just please read them.

This book man. THIS FREAKING BOOK. It is SPICY, it is intense, it is WONDERFUL. It starts off with a bang, where we get to know our MMC and he is luscious. (No like seriously I’m drooling). Our FMC is a bada** and while her part starts out a bit slow it picks up FAST.
Basically this is the story of a cursed land, and how Fellen (our FMC)is the only one who can save it through her bond with Neek. We get small glimpses into what made this world what it is, and why the humans are dying out-basically no one is strong enough to defeat the Fae.
I could literally gush on and on, but for fear of spoilers I will not.
I will leave with this:
THAT SCENE WITH NEEK (no it’s not what you’re thinking, yes I cheered)
THAT TWIST
I NEED MORE.
A few things to note:
This does get DARK, please check trigger warnings before reading.
.5 star taken away just for the sads (you’ll see if you read it) but is otherwise amazing
*I received an ARC of this book for my honest review*

This was a fun one!
This is not a bit book for the faint of heart, it is dark and gritty and exactly as the title says.
The whole book had me on the edge of my seat.
I loved the world building and the characters.
Each twist had me wanting to find out what was next!

The candy land of horror was a fun thing to imagine, the descriptions are so vivid it was easy to see in my head.
From beginning to end I was sucked in and couldn't wait to read on!

Can't wait for book two!

I have never read a book like this before. What caught my eye was that it was based on the Candyland board game and my mind is blown. There are different sections to this "game" and there are different fae for each.

Fellen and her friends are chosen to go on this quest to free the humans from the Bad Lands, and what they don't know is that secrets and lies are all about to come into the open during their adventure.

Fellen and Neek, a jinn, are

This book was wow! Fellen and Neek are the main characters of this book. We follow their love story and also other characters, ghouls, werewolves, vampires, ghosts and two evil rulers in a retelling of the board game of Candyland.
So ready for book 2! The first book ends in a cliffhanger that will be leaving you speechless!

Land of Horrors is a story of destiny and sacrifice wrapped in horror in a paranormal world. Imagine Candyland being stripped of its bubblegum and wholesome fun and replaced with a supernatural hunger games meets fantasy quest. I expected more horror based on the title but got a more paranormal adventure quest with a touch of romance in the middle. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this story and the world-building within it. It does end with a twist and cliffhanger of sorts yet, and while I have a theory, I can’t wait to see what happens next in the story.
