DNF.

I can’t keep going with this. The characters are horrible. The dialogue is terrible. The MC is downright cruel to his Golden. It’s basically a long winded advert for McDonald’s. The author seems to have a bathroom fixation. I had to stop when one of the characters said “Only low-life’s talk like that....” Terrible characters, boring story aside, that is basic elementary school spelling/grammar; the fact this even got published is deplorable.

I picked this up free on iBooks because of the Golden Retriever. The idiotic, whiny MC fed him solely McDonald’s and alcohol. Left him in extreme heat in vehicles and let him run around in the forest unsupervised. The MC is pretty unlikeable as it is but I just cannot abide by this blatant abuse of such a caring, wonderful and lovely dog breed.

I cannot really say what was wrong with this book. Unfortunately neither can I say what was good. I just didn't like it. I forced myself to finish it - nothing truly grabbed me. The characters did not engage me, and the storyline seemed stilted and repetitive.
Funny, I also found myself disappointed with many of the word choices the author made. I've never felt that way about a book before. I just kept thinking "I would have used a different word here. It would have made more sense." I found that very distracting.

The mystery was decent but a bit convoluted. And man, the characters drank A LOT!

This was not a great book. The main character and his dog try to figure out what is going on in order to help his sister. This book did not really hold my attention and I didn't feel like I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened. Also, if you read it thinking it will be about the dog, you will be disappointed.

I'm holding off rating this one - better than a 3, not quite a 4.

Jacob Martin has been laid off from his computer programming job, and is trying to fill in his days and income with writing and handyman jobs. His wife is divorcing him, and he's left with his wonderful golden retriever dog. Then his sister calls him when she's been arrested for the murder of her husband, and his father is in the hospital in critical condition.

I liked Jacob and his dog. His sister annoyed me, to be honest, and Mom wasn't much better.

Some surprising twists in this tale as Jacob unravels the facts of what's going on.

Good story

This story kept me guessing through the whole story. It is well written and all the characters are well developed.
