This is a remarkable story about healing, overcoming fears, and finding yourself. Hadley and Cade have a lot of personal baggage to deal with because of their pasts. This is what makes them perfect for each other. I loved the push and pull of this novel and the way Hadley and Cade balance each other out. Their chemistry and compatibility is undeniable from the very beginning. And in true Lea Coll fashion, these characters are well-developed, realistic, and relatable. I want to meet them and be their friend!

It is no secret that Lea Coll has become one of my absolute favorite authors. I have read every one of her books. But there is definitely something special about this one and I cannot wait to see how the rest of this series unfolds!

I’m really enjoying Lea Coll as a new to me author. Her writing style is wonderful and her characters are relatable. I can’t put down the book once I start.

Hadley and Cade are such a fantastic couple. Both with baggage from their pasts but unable to ignore the instant attraction between them. Yet also wary of things moving so fast. The author does a wonderful job with their thoughts, emotions and actions.

This started off strong, I thought the plot had a lot of potential. However about half way through I was bored. I started skimming and once I finished it I didn't remember very much about the book.

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I’ve been waiting on writing this review about Lea Coll’s Only with You. As I’ve read some of the earlier reviews, I felt, honestly, like I was missing something. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the basic premise of this story: a young woman trying to move away from the confines of her father’s purvey of her life (especially because her father is self-absorbed and cruel), a hero with tragic past who has struggled to truly live his life in the shadow of that tragedy, and new beginnings. All of these were the highlights of this story. As Cade and Hadley grow and move closer to each other, this book’s strength is clear. Even more, Lea Coll has situated it in one of my favorite areas of the U.S. I adore Annapolis and Baltimore, so walking these places with Cade and Hadley reminded me why I love this part of the Eastern Seaboard.

Yet, there were parts of this story where I struggled. For one, there is an unevenness in the storytelling. What I mean by that is one minute Cade is “all in” and the very next he is out. Hadley feels as through Cade won’t be able to love her as he did his deceased wife, but the next line is her submission to him. Now, I know some of you will say…but “Professor A” this is romance, they become overcome by their chemistry and lose their self-reflection on the romance. I’ve read that often in other stories who write it well. They give those moments space to breathe, but Coll doesn’t quite do that. It makes the reader feel as though they have whiplash from the quick change of pace. Secondly, I am not a personal fan of repetition. When an author has to continuously remind us of the challenges facing the hero and heroine either personally or together, it reads like filler. And this tended to happen quite a bit in this story.

Overall, I appreciated Cade and Hadley’s story. As these two find their happy ending, you cheer them because they struggle to find it. And many of Coll’s early readers LOVE this story. For me, though, it was difficult because the story felt slow. If you love two people working to find their HEA after personal tragedies and challenges, then you’ll like Lea Coll’s Only with You.

P.S. Please don’t hate me.

I really enjoyed Hadley and Cade's story.

I really felt for Cade. His emotions were really all over the place at the beginning. I loved his brother Nolan. He gave such great advice. It was so nice to see Cade finally step out of his comfort zone.

I loved Hadley until it came time to deal with her family. It really bugged me that it took her so long to really see what her father was doing to her. Or when she didn't want Cade to go with her to New Orleans. I really thought she was smarter and stronger but she was being pig headed.

It was still a great book. I couldn't put it down.

* * I HAD BEEN GIVEN AN ADVANCED READERS COPY IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW * *

This was a new kind of love after death story for me. I have seen and read books about husbands moving on after their wives passed away. But in those they kids of fill the hole in their heart by sleeping with anything and everything and then falling for a one night stand that just keeps popping up after the fact.

This is a chance meeting that turns into more, the instant connection, and a mild instant love. The timeline of the story and the timeline of their relationship kind of feels like instant love, on a widow who has been alone too long and finally opening his heart to the new girl in town I like Cade and how he goes from this surely crazy bear of a man to this man who is open to love and wants to stand up for those who can't and wants to protect those he loves.

There was a lot to be desired in Hadley as she was used to being stepped all over by her dad since her mother passed away many years before. But she only sees the light when the man she was dating pops the question in a very public way. That is when she sees this is not her life and not what she wants in her life, then she meets this man while starting over, well almost the day she starts over...

I don't know, I love their story and the connection they share but I feel like she was not sure enough in herself as a person to really jump into anything. But that is my thought.

I do recommend this book to anyone who loves instant love stories disguised as a slower burn.

Thank you
Ashton
