I love a good dystopian society, and this one did not disappoint.  I listened to the audiobook, and I need to take a second to praise Lucy Rivers, because she not only played the FMCs and all the MMCs, but she was also the last woman in the world as far as she was aware and was traveling to find the cure meaning she came in contact with MULTIPLE men that she had to narrate.  The narration was unreal and it had to be a massive feat.  WAY TO GO! Back to the story.... I loved this concept and I love a good strong FMC.  I loved seeing the character growth and the very beginnings of a why choose romance.  Don't expect a ton of spice in this book because it's more world building and character introductions, but this series has a lot of potential to be amazing.

What to expect:
Why choose romance
Dystopian Society
Strong FMC

I was so excited and hyped to finally pick this book up. I was in the mood for a spicy horror dystopian flavor. It also had a bit of paranormal element to it as well. This book started out so strong for me. I was hooked and really into it. The setting starts right after the beginning of an apocalyptic world where a deadly virus was unleashed, killing all women and children, and turning infected men into these bug like horrible monsters.

Evie doesn’t understand why she is immune to the virus. After being forced to flea the protection of her home she winds up in a horrific situation. Albeit, Evie is a badass fighter and is able to escape, but now she is all alone. The only thing scarier in an apocalyptic world than the monsters it created is the real monsters of humanity. Men who only want to take or destroy. Strangely enough Evie is “guided” along her journey of survival in search for answer when she crosses the paths of men who actually want to protect her.

Evie starts to gather up her little reverse harem of guardians. Jesse is a sword wielding Lakota. Roark is an Irish Catholic Priest. Michio is an Asian American doctor. Boxes are getting checked off left and right here. My favorite was Roark, hands down! How the hell Pam “wrote” his Irish accent so well that I began to read said accent in my head was just swoon worthy goodness.

Some really dark shit goes down in this book, but it’s Pam and I commend her. However, I got a bit lost, and a tad bored after about 60% when it came to all the sciencey stuff, the bug hybrids, and the battles that were had. That all became secondary plot for me. I wanted to get back to Evie and her three guardians. Looks like those relationships will develop more in book two. Anywho, the ending was like a movie where the true “villain” should have died, but unknowing to the “heroes” he lives to terrorize them another day…hence the trilogy. Like The Walking Dead, where it starts out fantastic, but then after while you question if you are even still invested.

This book was okay. I liked the whole idea behind the book and I even liked some of the characters but I just felt like there was a little too much going on. Evie is one of the strongest main characters that I have ever read about but the world building and how slow moving most of the book was made me choose not to continue with the series. I might just not be in the mood for it but it felt a little slow and a little wordy to me. But the premise is very interesting and I might pick up the series again when I am more in the headspace for it.

Okay y'all, here's the thing. @theinfinitereader.blog has created a monster inside me with @pamgodwinauthor She introduced me to Sea of Ruin and I instantly fell in love with her writing.
When I first started following Mickey, I saw her review on this series and added it to my TBR immediately. I mean seriously, can you blame me? Look at the cover! And let me tell you, this book did not disappoint.
I might be getting ahead of myself, but I think it might possibly be a new favorite. Not to mention, I think I like it better than Sea of Ruin (which I freaking loved). Pam freaking killed this book. Before I read it, I thought it was going to be your typical end of the world zombie story. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. The book follows Eve, the last living woman, through her battle to find the cure for this epidemic. Being the last woman on earth, the men she comes into contact with treat her exactly like you'd expect, like a piece of meat, except three. Jesse, Roark, and Michio make it their sole purpose to protect Eve by any means possible.
If we're being honest, no words that I write here will do justice to this incredible book. So basically what I'm saying is, drop everything you're doing/reading right now, and start this book. Its so good, so much action, some steam (apparently the second one is sexier, cannot wait!), and some sexy men. I cannot wait to continue the series! @Pamgodwin, you killed it! Way to go! Thank you for sending me this book in return for my honest opinion!

Dead Of Eve

I loved the premise of Dead Of Eve and the fact that the book lived up to it. Even though I didn't care for certain aspects (which I will not name because I don't want to spoil it for other readers) of it, it was quite an enjoyable journey with great characters that I can't wait to meet up with again. I will definitely be reading the next book in this trilogy. I loved the world created by this author.

I really enjoyed reading this, and probably would have given it 5 stars, but personally I always feel a little uncomfortable when the ‘bad guy’ is a certain religion and they’re never actually called an extremist or seperate from the actual religion. Many times it just stated that Muslims in general made this virus etc, when in reality it was some guy and his brother? I get that they did it all in the name of their religion etc, but it just really annoyed me. In all honesty, he could have been any religion. He hated women, THAT could have been his reason. He could have just hated humanity and wanted to be the creator of new peoples. But it didn’t happen that way and I just had to put up with it. For the most part, it was pretty absent from the story, only when he came to be a bad guy and quoted passages and stuff.

The rest of it? It was DARK.
SpoilerMan oh man was I uncomfortable (for the heroine, but still really enjoying the story lol) 99% of the time. She goes through some ROUGH shit. And honestly, if you have triggers, from basically anything traumatic, this book will most likely set that off. I expected rape. She’s the last woman on earth, and there’s some real gross people out there which would obviously be magnified in an end of the world scenario. After it happens the first time, which was really hard to read, I was terrified whenever she came across another guy. Even the guys she ends up with, to the end I wasn’t 100% trusting anyone.

There’s sexual assault to others. The bad guy is sexually abusing his brother that he gets to impregnate all the women and it’s actually shown in a scene and even though the guy was 100% a sexual predator since he tried to force himself on Evie when he was alone, I still somehow felt awful for him. It made me question if his brother completely changed him like that from all the abuse or if he was always awful (pretty sure he always was, but the abuse definitely made him more angry and aggressive).

A lot is very graphic, the violence whether it’s sexual or not was always very detailed and yes, it was really uncomfortable to read, but I also thought it gave a realism to how people would react when the worlds gone and they’re scared etc (or I guess as real as it can be with people turning into big zombies).

This in particular horrified me the most. The bug zombies. All I could think of was The Last of Us, which wasn’t bugs but because they weren’t traditional ‘zombies’ and more a mutated person, I kept thinking of that. And with that, came the noise. I loved that game, but that noise still haunts me. And so whenever she encountered one here I was completely on edge because my own brain wanted to terrify me lol.

Overall it’s a good book. It’s a tad long, she spends a lot of time forming new relationships with each of the three guys and I can’t say whether or not I’m 100% on with it until I get to the conclusion because the Dr guy is a tad toxic telling her what to do and the other two I’m cool with. We shall see.

I probably won’t even attempt book two until next year because it’s even longer than this and I just don’t have time for that when I’m behind on my reading goals. Definitely putting it on next year’s TBR list though, hopefully I don’t put it off too long and never get to it
