I’ve honestly never laughed so much in my life at a book, and how quirky and will eat some of the comebacks were was phenomenal this female main character, and the smelling character are such the epitome of enemies to lovers. I absolutely love everything about this book I love the author I got to talk to her through some messages and ask her some questions about the book itself. It had such a sweet backstory about how this amazing person that includes so many lives got this extravagant sendoff that totally was warranted. If you like stem romances enemies to lovers, one bed trough, true comedy in a romcom this is the book for you. I will recommend this book until the day I die because I feel like this is the book to get you out of a sad place. ♥️

Thank you to Hidden Gems Books for this free ARC. This review is voluntary and unbiased.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG, Melanie Summers might just be my new favourite rom-com writer! I giggled so many times at the banter between Ty and Gwen and the incredibly embarrassing situations they got thrown into. And the sex scene was perfectly steamy, chef kiss, no complaints here. I am now eagerly waiting for the next book in the series and planning to completely devour the rest of her books ASAP.

This is the perfect feel-good rom-com, with big feelings and reflections about life, death and legacy.

Rating: 4.5/5 Penguins (rounded down)
Quick Reasons: cute, quirky, laugh out loud romance; the snark abounds in this one; all the tropes.... but mixed well; entertaining, realistic characters; this was a ton of fun to read

HUGE thanks to Melanie Summers and Indigo Group Publishing for the title! My review is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by the gesture.

“Okay, but that was decades ago. What’s the last big risky thing you’ve done. Or … what’s the next big risky thing you’re going to do?” she asks. “Come on, wow me with how comfortable you are with the unknown.”

“Are you taunting me?”

“No, I’m not taunting you. You’re the one implying your middle name is Danger, so I’m just asking you to provide examples.”

This was a super cute, quirky, laugh out loud romance read. The characters were believable, with just a touch of pride and prejudice in their actions/ reactions/ motivations. Our dashing MMC is snarky on the outside and a giant cinnamon roll beneath the surface. Our FMC is sharp tongue and sharp witted, consistently dropping snarky one liners.

The enemies to lovers romance trope is familiar, but believable. Melanie Summers draws on other well loved tropes like forced proximity and only one tent to fully play out the story. And of course, there's the third act miscommunication that hits hard, followed by the HEA.

“You won’t. But if you don’t jump, you’ll be letting yourself down.”

I turn and look at him. “I’m kind of okay with that, actually. My regular life doesn’t require random acts of bravery, so…”

“Everyone’s life demands random acts of bravery,” he says. “Without them, we don’t truly live.”

I definitely recommend this to lovers of cinnamon roll MMCs/ snarky FMCs, romances that will have you laughing out loud, and fast-paced entertaining reads. Are you ready to get to know the enemy?

I received an eARC on NetGalley and am leaving an honest review.

TROPES
🧡 Enemies to Lovers
🧡 S.T.E.M + Billionaire Romance
🧡 One Tent
🧡 Forced Proximity

Gwen, an astrobiologist, and Ty, a CEO, are thrown into the wilderness of Peru on the trip of a lifetime when Ty’s partner Richard dies. It is the adventurous man’s last wish for representatives from every part of his foundation to go on this journey through Peru, but it turns into people trying to ensure Ty will continue funding their research.

This is literally all my favorite things in one book. A S.T.E.M. romance? Check. An enemies-to-lovers story with one tent? Check. Research into the unknown? Check. Mentions of Gigantopithecus? Check. Discussing the Inca? Check.

Everything about this book is great. Gwen and Ty both go on important journeys of self-discovery and acceptance, which is what Richard wanted. It forces them to reconsider their life decisions and move forward in a new direction, even if that might mean letting go of the past in some ways. I always love these arcs in books, and it was done incredibly well here. It’s almost like being out of communication with everyone they know forces some heavy thoughts and feelings to rise to the surface.

I also love how Gwen and Ty are forced to come to terms with their feelings for each other. It’s a ton of hilarious and sudden circumstances that only make sense when you are doing a trip like they are, and it worked every time because the precedent for it was set in the first few chapters. And maybe think twice about the power of suggestion.

I really enjoyed this book. It had some of my favorite tropes

- Enemies to Lovers
- Billionaire Romance
- Forced Proximity
- One Bed (tent/sleeping bag)
- Women in STEM

Ty and Gwen were so great. I loved them as individuals (I loved Gwen the most) and I loved them together. There were so many times when I laughed out loud reading this book. The back and forth was so great. The side characters also had a personality and they actually played a role in the story.

I really enjoyed seeing the growth for Gwen and Ty as a couple and as individuals. They supported each other and there was a really sweet love story.

This is the second book I have read by Melanie Summers and it definitely will not be the last!

I read this book because many reviews suggested it was like an Ali Hazelwood book. And although there were a lot of similarities to a Hazelwood book, it was not the same caliber of book for me. I rated this book 2 stars because it was okay. Parts of the book just dragged for me. I liked Gwen and Ty's character's individually. I just didn't feel the spark between them. I probably won't read the second book in this series.
