This book touches part of the human condition, the need to address injustice. In this case, common law is corrupt and so the only way to redress the situation is through personal revenge. I found, "The Count of Monte Cristo," revealing in the extent to which Edmond Dantès carefully plans his revenge under the guise of a cold demeanor while he is writhing with a revenge that is hot blooded with passionate urges and full of pride.

Although a very long read, it kept a good pace with sufficient action that is the result of it being delivered in a serialized format.

How the character, Edmond Dantès conceives, manages, and completes his revenge, shows the brilliance of the author Alexander Dumas with his intricate plot weaving which is one of the strongest elements.

Towards the end, unexpected mercy, collateral damage, and forgiveness give the story the necessary depth of psychological complexity to mark it as a timeless contribution.

Alexander Dumas' minutely constructed plot while also portraying consequences of revenge combine magnificently. Almost five.

I questioned whether there were editors in 19th century France. If you took the beginning and the end and then seriously SERIOUSLY edited the middle 60% you would have a fairly decent book. I just found it to be a bit much for me. I don't mind long books if they keep me engaged and on track.

As someone who often struggles to concentrate enough to get through a 300 page book before getting distracted by another hobby and forgetting the book exists for 6 months, I could not put The Count of Monte Cristo down. There’s no reason to be intimated by the size of this book.

Some people may argue that this book is longer than it should be, and I can understand that perspective, but honestly I do not care. Every page I read was with so much joy and excitement. Im glad it’s the length it is. It’s just more content and makes finishing this ginormous novel all the more satisfying.

There is a reason that this book has such a high rating. I can say it is that good and lives up to the hype. Are there minor things I would have liked to see differently? Yeah, but again I just simply don’t even care because it was all so fun and satisfying to read. Easily just became my favourite book. If the synopsis intrigues you at all, do yourself a favour and pick up a copy.
