This is the second book in the Jaipur Trilogy and takes place 12 years after the first book ended and updates you and follows the same group of people and it is nice to see how everyone is doing.
The author does a nice job of giving an insight into the culture, food, and dress of India. Her first two books followed a similar pattern which works. There is a secret (or two) that affects the behavior and backgrounds of those involved.

Starts off strong with the first chapter. Then, circles back and I was like “what?!?!?”. I knew that what seemed like a tangent would fit in, but frustrating to have it take so long - like half the book. Didn’t like Nimmi. Once Lakshmi got to Jaipur the story took off. I’ll read the third in the series when it comes out.

I think I should've read 'The Henna Artist' first. Probably would have got more out of it.
