Un deuxième tome un peu en dessous du premier mais j'ai quand même pris plaisir à suivre ce qui se passait dans l'histoire. Il y avait peut-être un peu trop de points de vue à mon goût pour être vraiment investie dans l'histoire.

The change in plot type really astonished me - I wasn't expecting an architectural mystery and smuggling investigation. The writing is nice.

Gifted to me by Helen because of the link with Jaipur!
Interesting because of the Indian connection but a bit light and the 2nd book in a series!
A light, easy read.

I really wanted to love this book, but sadly I did not. I connected like, nothing with the book.
The pacing was all over the place. The book jumps between characters and timelines, which could have been interesting, but it made things feel scattered and hard to follow.
There was also an issue that I could not figure out the characters, like at all. There was little to no introduction and the place and dynamics were not explained through the story, instead it was a list in the start with *wife of …* and *son of…* and such. Making me have to go back and forth to this list and also breaking up my reading.
There were also moments that felt overly dramatic or forced just simply forced, like when the characters would suddenly relise something just to move along like it did not matter. Gave me TSP flashbacks.
That said, the descriptions of Jaipur and the palace life are still vivid. Alka Joshi definitely has a talent for setting and atmosphere, and I liked reading about the clothes, food, and traditions. That made it feel down to earth and a little more immersive. I just wish the story had more depth to match the setting.
In the end, I finished it mostly out of refusal to DNF (and I was too lazy to leave my bed and get a different book). It was not great, and I do not recommend. I am not reading the last book in the series.
