H.G. Wells’ Invisible Man is an exciting and unforgettable read that showcases his genius as a storyteller. The novel follows Griffin, a brilliant yet troubled scientist who masters invisibility, only to face the darker consequences of his discovery. Wells maintains a fast and suspenseful pace, weaving together moments of mystery, tension, and even dark humor. Beyond the thrills, the book raises fascinating questions about morality, power, and what it means to be human when freed from society’s rules. It’s easy to see why this story has remained a classic for over a century. Invisible Man is imaginative, bold, and endlessly engaging.

The antisemitism was unnecessary but given the time it came out makes sense. Felt like the random ableism/racism in 80s movies. Beyond that, it held my attention and had excellent pacing.

my first time reading wells and i enjoyed it overall. the language felt very readable for a classic, and it didn't feel loaded with scientific theory - instead the focus was on his character and behaviour. i did find the first few chapters a little tedious, but that might reflect my current reading slump rather than the writing itself. i am excited to read more of wells' work in the future!
