This book was so much better than I expected. The first 100 pages were slow but I genuinely couldn't put the book down after that. I loved the characters, the world and I'm excited to see more about Cyrus in the next book. A really good read.

I actually enjoyed this book. I found the writing poetic and really engaging to listen to. I love LOVE LOVE the prophecy shrouded in riddle troupe way more than I thought I was going to.
I think the forbidden lovers was tasteful and think the upper, middle, lower class approach was unique and enjoyable.
I love that we FINALLY get an FMC who is a badass without putting on the “tough girl” act. She is humble, feminine, but deadly and I love that for her.
The only part of this book that felt a bit disconnected was Kamran’s spiral from “she’s a spy” to “I’ll abandon my entire kingdom for you.” It felt too sudden and didn’t transition as flawlessly as I would have liked.
With that being said, is it a world changing fantasy read? No… but I enjoyed the heck out of because it felt genuine and not at all like the copy paste: “small female with an attitude and a blood lust” and “tall dark and brooding beef cake of a man.” I mean there was that in the male… but the new copper headed King might just throw a wrench in that troupe and I’m all for it.
