Thank you lovely Anouk♡ for reading this with me!!
"You do not yet realize that you possess the luxury of compassion because I have carried in your stead the weight of every cruelty, of every mercilessness necessary to ensuring the survival of millions. I clear away the darkness, so that you might enjoy the light."
This was my first Tahereh Mafi book. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was gladly surprised by how beautiful she writes. Her writing is poetic and melodic.
This woven kingdom was a nice story but frankly dragged on for far longer than it should have. The pace was excruciatingly slow... I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but it never did up until the last 100 pages of the book (or more precisely the last page).
Throughout my reading I was sure this would be a 1-2 stars but those last 100 pages were AMAZING.
The ending though!!!!!!!! It definitely upped the rating for me.
The storyline was very nice. It was my first time reading this genre of Mythology and I truly enjoyed it. I wish T. Mafi took more time to world-build. As I always felt I had some questions about the world.
The characters were great, Alizeh and Kamran had a nice intensity to them. Kamran really reminded me of Magnus from [b:Falling Kingdoms|12954620|Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1)|Morgan Rhodes|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1337026387l/12954620._SY75_.jpg|18111704] which is why I loved him greatly.
The banter between Hazan and Kamran throughout the book was hilarious. I loved every second of it.
The plot didn't advance much but I am excited to see what will happen in the sequel.
I really wish the book was more action-packed and faster paced I would have adored it.
PS: Can we please have a map? Who writes high fantasy without maps??

Full review coming later, but I only put "no" for character development because this first book is just set to establish who the characters are and introduce the overarching conflict of the world. (But overall I love this and it still holds up three years later)
The storyline was good but the characters’ inner monologues were so melodramatic, they were hard to get through. The description also had so much unnecessary fluff. A bit predictable too. 3.5/5⭐️s
2.3 stars
I was going to mention how I hated how this book is marketed as an enemies-to-lovers when in reality, it's more of a boring love at first sight kinda deal... until we met MY MAN at the very end. So 1.8/5 stars for the beginning and 2.8 for the last few chapters just for that one character.
From what I remember about this book, it's literally just a cinderella retelling, but boring. There was nothing that stuck, the villains were extra goofy and the main character was a bit too "perfect".
BUT, people really love the other books in this series... So I'll probably give it another go.

oh wow. that ending. okay wow that ending blimey man okay so at the beginning it was kind of boring which is why it took me so long to finish it. the bits up until hazan and alizeh met that was boring and that was not that enjoyable for me. i mean it was it was interesting but kamrans chapters were so boring even after that point they were genuinely so boring when they’d be like a huge plot twist or cliff hanger and then we just have a stupid kamran chapter and him being all ‘oh my life as a royal in luxury and in a fancy house thats always safe and never having to worry about anything regarding my safety or my necessities is sooo hard like its so hard being a prince with people literally dressing me like ugh my life is so hard start a charity already #savekamran’ and it’s like mate i actually don’t care.
but oh my god that scene where hazan and alizeh first met was so wholesome and was so heart warming i cant but like i’m so worried for hazan is he going to die? because at the end he was like getting restrained because alizeh and cyrus outed him and i really hope hes okay becuase i lowkey love him.
no but omg when the devil said that thing i was not expecting it to be the king oh my god that’s disgusting poor children what the hell. I feel so bad for omid because he was a street child too.
no but i was like so shipping kamran and alizeh up until cyrus came about like now im lowkey cyrus and alizeh now because theyre just so cute! but kamran was still so cute like he had many lines that had me giggling and kicking my feet anyways but like idk i think i prefer cyrus just because he doesnt seem as boring as kamran. but anyways im so excited to read these infinite threads.
