Deliciously bracing.

Mafi has done it again. She has such an enthralling voice and tells stories unlike any I’ve ever read before. I didn’t realize how parched I was until I opened this book. After reading through the first page of Mafi’s familiar, poetic words, it became very clear that I had found a well of sorts. I was so desperate for it that I completely immersed myself.

This story is simply beautiful. Every sentence is a gilded thread that Mafi has spun and she weaves every chapter into an incandescent tapestry full of magic, enticement and courtly intrigue. Alizeh is such a deeply lovable character; your heart aches for her pain, rages along with her and soars with her joy. The magical world that she lives in so intricately detailed, colorful and alive–I was immediately sucked into it. It’s so full of culture and really took me back to my time spent in Istanbul, Turkey. It was so refreshing and absolutely gorgeous!

I’m desperate to learn more about Alizeh’s past and so excited to discover the depths of her power. Her magic is something I’m so curious about, it’s like nothing I’ve ever read before! I’m a little saddened that it didn’t get much center stage until the last few chapters, but hey, I’m all the more invested in the second book now. Of course, the romance with Kamren and the mystery surrounding Cyrus certainly doesn’t hurt, either!

So, don’t mind me. I’ll just be over here, yearning for the next installment of this series. I’ve had a taste and now I won’t be able to rest until I’ve discovered what lies beneath the surface of this riddle.
