I got lucky and snagged this book during the previous stuff your kindle day, and my goodness I’m so glad I did.

Set in modern day, this book follows FMC she-demon Ruby, who is under the impression that she is a succubus. She’s a badass that owns her own tattoo parlor with her banshee bestfriend, and has a pet raccoon. The world is filled with humans, imps, demons, and other exotic supernatural beings. Ruby has been living 23 years believing that she is just a regular she-demon until the four harbingers of the apocalypse — famine, war, pestilence, and death — arrive to turn her world upside down and tell her otherwise.

The world building in this book was fantastic, and the characters were intriguing. Ruby is a kickass FMC — she truly takes no shit, and will let you know if you’ve pissed her off. She’s unapologetically stubborn, and is always down for an adrenaline rush. I loved how sassy and smart-mouthed Ruby was the entire book. The sass and stubbornness wasn’t overdone, which I was pleased to see.

Moira was quick to become one of my favorite side characters, because we all need a friend like Moira who will do questionable favors in order to get into the latest and hottest club. She’s spunky, protective, and a perfect complement to Ruby.

And don’t even get me started on the four horsemen. holy. SHIT. I normally pick favorites in RH books, but with how well these four, brooding and handsome harbingers were written, it was difficult to just have one favorite.

All in all, the world building in this novel was amazing and I really enjoyed it. I was able to visualize every setting and character in the book because of how descriptive the characters and settings were written. Truly loved this book, and looking forward to reading the next one.

For a novella, this was good. If it had been expanded into a longer chapter book I probably would have tapped out.
