The stakes for a lot of this one are emotional, giving a lot for Hazel to work with,  which is pretty great.

I still struggle with the writing at times, it's real cishet focused for a very alien series. Fiona Staples is rocking it as always.

Interesting and different direction for this volume. The sadness was offset by a lot of deep and touching revelations about life and love, but there were also a handful of characters I just didn't care about (the three cowboys in the desert) and I was happy when they were moved aside to focus on our main cast again. It was sweet and touching to see Hazel actually interact with kids her age as well.

Re-read in preparation for Saga Vol. 10
Ok this one hurt. Seeing Kurti and Hazel get to be siblings and Alana and Marco having to watch that knowing it has to end HURTS. But it was a really good volume, the addition of Ianthe really ramps up the sense of dread.
