I couldn't put this book down. I needed to know what happened. I needed to figure the story out. And you literally don't know the truth until the very last sentence of the book. Those are the kinds of books I crave. The page turners, the gasps that don't stop coming throughout an entire story. This book provided both.
I've read some if-y reviews about there being too many main characters telling their POV back and forth (a good 9 character point of views) and it being hard to follow - okay, yes, if you don't like those sorts of books, you might not like the layout of this one, but I personally like that style, and I feel the characters are memorable, so keeping track of them for me was no problem (sort of like Sara Blaedel's novels), and the story is good. Lots of secrets, lots of questioning who did this/who did that, and like I said, surprising ending!

I enjoyed this book. It took me a moment to get into because there are constant POV changes, many many characters (counting off the top of my head, like 9 character's who's POV is used, and it changes every chapter) and it was pretty confusing for a good bit.

As far as likeable characters go, all of them were HEAVILY flawed, but that said, they were well written. Additionally. Paula Hawking does a great job of wrighting characters you want to punch in the face.

The book does a good job of exploring grief and the many many ways it can effect people. Out of all of the books with grieving characters I've read, I feel like this one truly captures it the best.

All and all it was a story that kept you enthralled, not necessarily on the edge of your seat, everything was set up pretty clearly via foreshadowing, but it was done in a way that did not make it monotonous. There are parts of it that as you read you're going "why is this necessary?" But I do feel that by the end everything is relevant and pulled togeather.

3.5* I don't read thrillers that often but I really enjoyed this one. I found this more gripping than the girl on the train and managed to read it in under a day. What lets the book down is the number of povs, there's too many and I lost track of who a few of the characters were. As someone who doesn't read many thrillers or mysteries I didn't see any of the twists coming. A quick read that I'd definitely recommend.
