The Chemist

About halfway through the book, I started to wonder; “are authors paid by the word? Do editors ever red line entire paragraphs and declare that it could be finished in half the time? Does the Mormon church know about this author? Is this a treatise on Stockholm syndrome? “ If you are in the airport, some of the gift shops refund half you money on trade ins of books and for some reason, the next book might be $2.00. This is a great book for reading in an airport, the first 100 pages are interesting..... until the guys show up. Sigh. I don’t think it passes the Betchdel test.

Audiobook is easy to listen to

Spies (and boring science stuff)! and then Instalove Between Mary Sue and The Bland Nice Guy. And then Spies Again! That's pretty much what I made of this book. I didn't love it, and I didn't even like it. I read it because I loved the Twilight series (excluding Breaking Dawn) and really enjoyed The Host, but The Chemist was way too boring and way too long.

There was a lot of repetition in this book, which is quite annoying. However, the action sections of the book were interesting. I rolled my eyes at just about all of the romance in the book; if she would've left a lot of that crap out, it would've gotten at least 4 stars.

It was a decent book. I got tired of Alex's inner dialogue. The book could have done with more action. And the dogs - why did they have to go there with the dogs? At least they didn't kill the main ones (killing any of them still sucks). But leaving them behind is just about as bad.

Glad it was a stand alone story. Not sure I care enough about the characters to read another one.

I really liked this book. Fast moving, interesting, and thankfully nothing like Twilight- no sparkly vampires here. Ending was a bit predictable, but still enjoyable.
