This was such a good read, the best I've picked up in a long time! I was reminded that the real reason I loved the Twilight Saga was because this woman can WRITE, I don't care what people say!!! She just has a way with words that captures my imagination and holds me in a death grip until the last sentence is done. This story is also unlike her previous works--utterly scientific, no paranormal elements at all, and I still ate it up. I also love that when Meyer does love stories she keeps it classy, but there's so much BEAUTY in how she addresses the goings on between the love interests. It's magical and poetic, and would make the likes of Austen proud in how much emotion the writing articulates. Also worth mentioning, I love that Meyer can write adult fiction without smattering every page with profanities. She keeps the language simple but meaningful, and the impact is undeniable IMO. Lastly, the plot behind this novel is a BEAST--but she slayed it, outright and with exceptional skill. It was smart, it was unpredictable, it was developed, and memorably a wild ride of adventure and intrigue that I'll take again someday.
Go Meyer! Keep 'em coming, girl!

I am an old guy coming to this book without ever having approached all the YA stuff, twilight, the movies and all the other nonsense that seems to dominate the other reviews. I read it because the plot sounded interesting. It is interesting. Although it is way too long, the plot moves forward and met my expectations for a spy novel with some compelling twists and turns. The love interest is a bit juvenile, but one can say that about many books in this genre without being so harsh toward the author's previous work. It is really a 3.5 rating rather that a true 4.o. But for spy novel lovers, it gets the job done.

Good for an easy, quick read (don't let the 500 pages fool you; it really does move quickly). Reads like watching a thriller on TV. Predictable in many ways but still enjoyable.

I really struggled through this book. The fantasy life of gadgets and jewelry that turned into lethal weapons when triggered was a little far fetched. The main character's obsession and borderline neurotic behavior of being followed/watched/hunted was developed well but reiterated too often. I couldn't bring myself to finish the book, mainly because it bored me and I couldn't get into it. I ended up learning I hadn't missed much from a friend who did finish it, and expressed a dull ending, to say the least.

I wanted to give it a 3.5 rating but had to round up.
