It was sooo good! Until the romance ...
Very cheesy and took away from the plot.

I liked it! My favorite part was definitely how unconventional this book was compared to most of the romances I’ve read. The fact that it was a spy thriller was kind of cool. Definitely still a romance, and still felt very YA to me except for the fact that there are some sex scenes (very vague, but still there). Easy, enjoyable, fast read. Did take me a while before I was grabbed though, but still fun. Definitely has a very strong Stephanie Meyer feel to it.

Wasn't too into the floofy love story plot of it, but the main action plot I found very captivating and loved to see in the acknowledgements that she went through research interviewing people to make things well written scientifically. Great read, but not for the romance.

Początek był monotonny, do 80 str z 3 4 dialogi a reszta same opisy. Od ok.100 storny się rozkręciło, a koniec bardzo przewidywalny.

This was fun, especially towards the end, but felt like it would’ve been more fun as a movie!

This book is about as fluffy and insubstantial as I expected, like cotton candy, and I enjoy that kind of sappy sweetness occasionally. I appreciate Meyer's attempt, but I think her poor characterization and lack of experience writing spy thrillers bogs the story down.

4.5 stars Surprise & wow, better than I had anticipated! Stephenie Meyers can get face paced thrillers done also– whodathunk? This book comes at you hard and cruises continuously with action, in addition to flashes of dry humor and romance. The main character, Alex, is a bad ass beotch and the twists are really good, IMHO. Reading thrillers are outside my typical consumption so I found the twists unpredictable. Highly recommend.

Read on the recommendation of a client. Nearly threw Kindle into a pool rather than finish it (I persevered).

Emotionally stunted woman amazed to find love + internal struggle over being a "monster" + a surprisingly useful pack of dogs + character unnaturally talented at intellectual and physical feats. It's Meyer's earlier work recycled into an utter mess. It's not dissimilar from a middle schooler imagining what it must be like to be a doctor--there is no semblance of understanding, just events thrown together. Truly awful.

I haven't read the Twilight saga and now I know I´m not the target audience for Stephenie Meyer's books. Although I surely enjoyed some parts of the book I really didn't care for the romantic/sexy parts at all. I found the climax disappointing for such a lengthy work. The characters are not at all believable. The chemist's motivations are weak for her calling and so is her standings on the matter. Her romantic involvement with her captive is absurd to say the least. I know Stokholm syndrome is real, but in this case it is ridiculous, naive and fake. As are the reactions of the captive towards him being tortured. I find a lot of potential in Meyer's writing, she surely has a voice of her own but I think she is still learning her craft. The climax to this book should have been a home run but for me it was a foul ball.

Toto, we're not in Forks anymore.

I've had this on my kindle since it published but have just now gotten around to reading it.

It's obvious that Meyer did a ton of research. My only gripe is that sometimes I felt like every single, solitary, iota of information that she gleaned ended up on these pages. I really don't need to know absolutely every item that our protagonist is putting in to her backpack. Or pulling out of a trunk of a car.

Most of it was really cool info, but it felt like Meyer didn't know when to stop. It bogged the pacing and slowed the action. Otherwise it was a pretty solid read.
