I'm kind of glad this was the last book. I felt like this book just dragged on and on until the last few chapters.
It was amazing to me that the story of Carmen's disappearance turned out the way it did. I never saw that coming. I was floored. These kids (Tolliver and Harper) went through hell and back growing up. It makes sense why their relationship would develop into something more because honestly who else would have been able to deal with them with the same empathy and compassion.

his book brings the series home, and not in the best way for the characters. Injuries are had, football players turned cops become heroes and overall the character development is very satisfying.
This book is not my favourite in the series, the honour of that title goes to Grave Surprise, for reasons I cannot fully explain but this one is close behind. Harper and Tolliver’s relationship flourishes, and there is a very real threat facing them both, and their relationship. Family.
I didn’t know who had killed Cameron so it was a shocker to me, but once again they fall for the same trap in the end.
Overall I would recommend this to anyone who wants urban fantasy and murder mystery mixed together.

Crossover. Manfred Bernardo appears frequently in this book.
Tying up loose ends. That's what this book seemed to be about. Hopefully it's not the end for Harper, Tolliver and Manfred because I really enjoy these books!
The exact same plot device is used to instigate the climax of three out of the four books in the series: Someone connected to a death calls Harper or Tolliver and asks them to come by for a talk. They have a gun. Truth comes out. This seriously bothers me. It's just pure laziness. It's infuriating.
Biggest plot hole: The bookbag.

Ein würdiger Abschluss, obwohl das Ende sich etwas übereilt anfühlte.
This was, in some ways, the book, I had been waiting for. We finally get to find out, what really happened to Harper's sister Cameron.
(spoiler?)
I'm not sure, if I like the explanation, though. I'm rather glad, it wasn't some random person, mind you. But this all seemed to come about rather suddenly. I would really like to know, if this story had been planned before this book. Looking back on it, we got to know about Mark's devotion to his father early on, but, as was said in the book, it seemed, we didn't know Mark at all. I would've liked, to have known him a little better before the big reveal. We only ever heard, about how he did, what he could, but had moved out early. maybe then, it would've had a bigger impact.
On a side note, while, it was obvious those two would get together from book one, I don't care about them being married, at all. I would've preferred them to really just be good friends. But then, these kinds of books always need their big romance.
That said, I would've liked, to see, the two work together as a married couple now, that the big mystery is out of the way. Mind you, if this means, there's more time to write more Sookie, I won't object.
