this book is so incredibly tedious. a weird amount of repetition and inconsistencies where it just feels like a publisher/editor never looked at this… i don’t even have the energy after reading this to type out everything that’s wrong with this story and it’s prose.

Readers will be whisked away into a new world of good vs evil in City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. Clary Fray has had a typical life for 15 years with an over protective mother and her best friend Simon living in the city of New York. One night at a club she witnesses a murder she can't explain, her mother goes missing and she is thrown into the world of Shadowhunters, the mysterious guardians of humans from daemons. With the help of a inscrutable and gorgeous shadowhunter named Jace and his friends, Clary starts the adventure of a lifetime that will uncover all kinds of things about her past. Cassandra Clare takes old mythology to a new level in this book creating a very interesting read. The characters in this book have such interesting levels and connections that keep readers intrigued and guessing for the whole novel. The plot of this novel and the foreshadowing into the past is so wonderfully confusing that it makes for such an amazing read. I would say that Cassandra Clare is my favorite author of all time and the Mortal Instruments series is so fantastic! I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone! If you find that City of Bones is a little slow, stick with it! The books get much, much better as they progress. Happy reading.

I definitely loved this more when I read it as a teenager, but even as an adult I can understand that love. This was such a nostalgic re-read for me! I remember my horror at finding out about
SpoilerJace and Clary's "relatedness," but re-reading it now was even more horrifying. Obviously I know they're not actually siblings, but it's so weird to me that that was the premise and still the two are written as teens with feelings for each other with chemistry. It totally gives me the ick.

There's definitely language that is extremely dated, and the writing itself made me cringe at times, but the story as whole remains interesting and fun. I'm excited to re-read the rest of this series and enter into the expanded Shadowhunter world that I have yet to experience. One can only hope it gets better from here.

Clarissa Fray's adventure from her plain old life as a mundane teenager to a kickass shadowhunter will never disappoint you. I cant add more. My two year old son persistently tries to grad my phone from my hand so... Bye.

Can’t believe this is like my third reread and I only just figured out that Clary is a weeb. Anyways, a classic I turn to often, I still love it. I will say though that Jace has climbed to the love interest I love the least out of all the Shadowhunter books. Jace kinda sucks compared to Will, Jem, James and even Julian. Will does the brooding emo I’m damaged character much better. Jace is just so infuriating sometimes. I like him better in TDA.
