This book gave me everything, and I ate it up! This book deals so heavily in smashing the patriarchy, and not asking but TAKING equal rights. There are plenty of twists and turns, broken bones and hardened hearts, but through all, love and determination perseveres and persists. Xiran Jay Zhao perfectly weaves Chinese culture and mythology with sci-fi and has created this book that has be BEGGING for the next book to be in my hands years ago. I learned so much about myself and have come away with a new lense on the world that I didn't have before. This book has a bit of everything and even if sci-fi isn't your genre, you will devour this book like I did!

Female rage in its finest. The mc is allowed to be the ugly kind of angry and i love it! It is not hard to see how she would be the villain in any other story but that is what makes her so appealing.
My only downpoint is that i would have liked more character interaction in the last bit, but overall an amazing story

Where can I find this second book I need it NOW!!!!! This was so incredibly fun (and heartwrenching. Like seriously. The rollercoaster of emotions is crazy)!!! The characters are SO LOVELY I adore Zeitan and Yizhi and Shimin so much. They are so complex and they do some shady stuff but god how I love morally grey characters!!! Feed them to me!!!
Also adore how interactive the author is with the fandom!! The website with the memes and playlists is everything. I appreciate it endlessly!! Such a great read!!! Thank you for giving us the characters that we need <3
