One of the best history books of modern times, written by someone who lived through it. If you only read one book about Nazi Germany -- or even about all of World War 2, then it should be this book. Yes, it is over 1100 pages long, but it is well worth the time, and Shirer was a journalist, so his style is easier than many academic books.

It’s important as an early largely first hand account of the history of Germany before and during World War Two. Its long and hard to get through.
