This book!!!! Very quick read but so much depth!

“If someone you love gets killed, find the person who killed them and kill them.”

The end of this book left me sitting with my mouth open, trying to put all of the pieces together.

I just need a moment....

JASON REYNOLDS/PRINTZ AWARD/POETRY REQUIREMET

Long Way Down is a collection of poetry that tells the story of an elevator ride. Will's older brother is killed and according to the unspoken rules of his inner city neighborhood, Will must kill the guy who he is sure killed his brother. As he rides the elevator from the 8th floor, people get on at each floor. And each person is someone from Will's past that was killed by gun violence. They aren't there to tell him not to do it. They just tell their story and fill in the gaps of Will's personal family history so he gets a bigger picture. Throughout the book, the reader sees how violence breeds violence and you can't always be sure who's who. The story is so sad and the ending is open enough that you relaly aren't sure what Will decides. The choice to set the whole story in the one elevator ride pushes the reader forward; it really isn't easy to put down. It is really eye opening and a good read for older teens who can handle the harder topic better than younger teens.
