Really sad. A book about gun violence. Makes you think about the choices you make.

A emotional, profoundly moving story told in verse— this one hits you in the feels. Long Way Down forces you to reevaluate not only the world around you, but yourself.

This story spans all of 60 seconds, but the impact will stick with you long after turning the last page. Do yourself a favor and listen to or read the author interview because Jason Reynolds perfectly encapsulates his reasoning for writing this in verse.

I know I’ll be thinking of this book often with tears in my eyes.

This book is an amazing collection of captivating poems that speak true to the tragedies and numerous misfortunes of a population that is often silenced. I highly recommend this book for those in middle and highschool, especially to those that may not be the best readers.

Good gracious. I cried the entire second half. Jason Reynolds is a talented poet and narrator. I am in awe of his way with words.

4,5 stars - written in verse so it's a fast read. The verses were written in such a good way, I had to stop several times and have a "wtf" moment (in a good way) bcs Jason Reynold's pen is so good, whewwww

This book written in verse is just as powerful as the first time I read it in graphic novel version. Even without illustrations, the words and their structure paint vivid images of the story being told. The way that every page, every line, and every stanza is formatted so that it never misses a beat and hits you with forceful emotion and the stark realities of gun violence and its impact on young people, is a testament to how talented Jason Reynolds is and how important his works are. It's the kind of story that you won't stop reading until you're completely finished, and that will leave you in awe of how many complex emotions and feelings can be portrayed within the span of the 1 minute in an elevator that the story takes place in.
