Some of the previous reviews talked about this being more sugary sweet than a piece of pie, and it is quite sweet...which I don't think is a bad thing. I ate it up. Everyone has their sorrow that they carry, and blackbird pie offers a slice of comfort for those who grieve. The characters are good people trying to make the best of what life has dealt them. Even the antagonist's bitterness is relatable. There's just the right amount of mystical realism to give the story some flavor, without overpowering the other ingredients in the story.

It was a bit predictable, there weren't any shocking revelations that came out of left field. But Wicklow, Alabama was a comfortable place to spend a few days, meet some new folks and enjoy some mystical pie and I hope I get a chance to return there someday.

A strong 3.5 for me, it was just a cute “big city girlie moves to small town for plot” story but I liked the relationships between the characters the most.

If you want a nice, predictable story that seems to be set in a less funny, southern Stars Hollow, you found it!
The predictably didn't bother me. I was looking for an easy read that was just going to tell me a little story without making me work for it. Fit the bill, even if part of the ending made me roll my eyes a bit.

Predictable story but it was an enchanting, character driven trip.
