As the title suggests, the book contains retelling of fairytales. I do have to admit, it started out with some statistics that had me going back a bit. Like, where’s the poetry this is math! Yet that reveals the odds of you as a person existing which is actually pretty slim. Who know math could help with existentialism? I found myself gasping at some of the turns and found myself sympathetic to the characters I didn’t think I’d be, but not condoning their actions. This stories easily flow into one another.

I regret that I didn’t curl up with this book for an afternoon with a good cup of tea, because that's what this book feels like. But I’m also glad I didn’t go to bed with this book since I think it would have had me sobbing if I read this at night after a long day.

This book felt like someone softly whispered “Lumos” from within a room that had been dark too long. Then, there was not just light, but fireworks. In other words, magic.

Nikita Gill creates exactly what the title of this book says, in particular: Poems and Stories to Stir Your Soul. I was truly moved my many of the pieces within this book, some about courageous strength and others, bitter heartache. Nikita’s retellings of fairytales with a modern twist are inspiring and beautiful.

I feel like I would have loved this as a teenager and still love the concept but it’s too simplistic for me as an adult. It’s very tumblr vibes.

A beautiful collection of poetry and short stories, the self-love poems and the empowerment stories were very well written and some of the poems and stories really resonated with me. I love the author's use of fairytales and taking those tales and rewriting them to include the themes of mental illness, self-love, female empowerment, and taking one's life into your hands and achieving what you want for yourself. Some of these poems were heavy-handed at times but it still was a really good collection of poetry that will stick with me and I will recite them when I need a boost of empowerment.
