The book was interesting and a bit predictable at times. I give it a 4/5 due to the misleading nature of the preview. The preview is presented as “fun” and “funny”, there is nothing fun about
rape and marital abuse
. Overall, I did enjoy the different mother/daughter relationships and the importance of friendship.

See trigger warnings - this is not a light beach read.

This was not at all what I expected! I went in thinking this would be a light, fun women's fiction beach read. It ended up being really dark, with really important messages about consent, gender roles, privilege, and identity.

Synopsis: Daisy Shoemaker, a homemaker married to a successful lawyer, makes friends with Diana Starling, a consultant whose similar email address leads to them connecting. Daisy is excited to make a new friend, but Diana did not enter her life by accident.

*Trigger warning*: Rape

I've seen a lot of negative reviews, but I actually really liked this one, even though it was so different from my expectations. It was suspenseful, had such a great message, and I thought it did a good job of handling the conflicting feelings all the characters face as past secrets come to light. And I LOVED Daisy's daughter Beatrice, she was just such an impressive person and I loved how true she was to herself.

I did have some negatives - sometimes the alternating timelines made it hard to figure out where we were in the story. It got repetitive at times. And I didn't love the ending.

But overall I still enjoyed it a lot (more than Big Summer actually), and would recommend, as long as you're not expecting something light!
