If you listen to one audiobook this year, let Soundtrack be the one. The full cast and accompanying music and sound effects takes this reading experience to a whole other level. The story is light and fun, but also evokes a sentimental and emotional response in dealing with some more serious topics. I love nothing more than a narrative that fully pulls you in and surrounds you with its characters and their journeys.
Thank you Penguin Random House for this signed vinyl copy and the chance to meet Jason at ALA Annual and to PRH Audio for the Audiobook Listening Copy in exchange for an honest review.
Soundtrack is exclusively available on audio.

Let's be honest, does Jason Reynolds ever really miss? The answer to that question is no. This audiobook is a whole experience, with a full cast, music, sound effects, the whole thing. It immerses you in New York City, with this group of teens who just want to make music while dealing with other family things. If you're a fan of audiobooks, I highly recommend checking this one out!
Graphic: Cancer, Child death, Cursing
Moderate: Domestic abuse, Gun violence, Injury/Injury detail

This was a beautifully produced audiobook — the story really comes to life with the full voice cast, the sounds of the city, and an original score, and is totally immersive. Jason Reynolds is unmatched in his ability to really capture the voices, humor, and dynamic of teenagers , and this is no exception, though if I had any qualms, it might be that the voices skewed a bit younger in tone (Stuy is 18, but reads like a younger teen to me). But I would still highly recommend this. It’s a powerful book that really honors New York and the rich music history that makes the city amazing.
