So, I cringed through half of the book. Zombies, really?
The concept of the other world is interesting, but I don’t know how I felt about the execution of it.
Also everything seemed to just wrap up and be better so easily (besides the 70 something people that were killed, which was just never mentioned again). Oh, Jack is totally fine now! Oh, all the red fledglings/vampyres are fine now except for their guilt and other feelings! Oh, Zoey is going to be all close with her brother all of a sudden when she never was before! Everything just seemed too convenient.
Also, wanted to smack Aphrodite at the end for being so flirty with Kevin while sweet, wonderful Darius stood there and dealt with it.

Despite all this, I couldn’t help finishing the book quickly because of a desire to keep reading. Maybe it’s just because I love Stark so much. Who knows.

I think what I liked most about this book is how it brought me back years ago to when I read the original series. I'll admit when Loved was announced, I was iffy but ultimately also wanted to read it. I didn't know what to think. After 12 books, P.C. and Kristin Cast had fully completed the House of Night series, and then years later, restart it?

But of course, I pre-ordered the hard cover so it could sit beside the other 12 hardcovers. Then I started it.

I so greatly enjoyed this series! I loved (as I said) that it brought me back to my teenage years, but also that it brought me back to one of my favorite series of all times. Reading about all the past characters again is a thrill. The fact that they all sound like they did in the other series is perfect.

At first what also threw me was the mention of Neferet. After 12 books, they need a new villain! BUT this book took the issue in no way I imagined. First, Neferet was merely mentioned. Not (yet?) shown. secondly, the drama and issues are not so much in this world but in an alternate Other World that is spilling over to the normal world. In this Other World, Zoey isn't alive, Neferet does rule, Stark is her "man toy", etc. But this is all mentioned to us by Other World characters.

There was one part I didn't like, speaking of Other World characters. This book brings back a beloved character from the original series. Although that should be great, I felt the character should remain dead if only for drama reasons. Plus if they bring back too many old characters, how is this series showing any progress at all?

I really enjoyed seeing all the old characters though and what they were up to, especially Stark and Zoey. Those two will forever warm me. Add in Stevie Ray and Rephaim and Aphrodite and Darius and this book covered all the romance details that I wanted! Without saying anything, this story continued Aphrodite's to an appropriate place. One where I am still backing in its glee, and I hope it continues how I expect. She deserves it. next to Stark, she's my favorite character.

Overall I appreciate the authors for bringing these books back and really really enjoyed this story. 2018 is such a long time to wait for book 2! (or 14!)

I'll start off by saying that I cannot relate to people who are ready for a series to end and that's okay (I realize that long series are not for everyone). I myself adore a good series and honestly I get so attached to characters. I want more. I want to see their stories unfold and I want to stick with them through every adventure. As long as the writing is amazing from book to book, the story could go on forever for me. Which is why I was very ecstatic about a new HoN book!

HoN is the very first long series that I read. One of my favorite things about this series is that the authors have a way of making you fall in love with every single character. Yes, the 'evil' characters as well. You get to see Kalona after his fall and follow him on his journey back to Nyx and even in 'Loved', you gain a new understanding of Neferet (or Emily). Don't get me wrong, I don't love Neferet or the things that she did, but you understand her path that led her there and why she felt like power is what she needed. Evil is not always so black and white.

In 'Loved', the whole Nerd Herd is back! I love that they brought back everyone. If they had only brought back just one or two characters (ex: Stevie Ray or Damien), I do not think that I would have the same love for this book. 'Loved' takes you on a new adventure with the group, except this time it stops being about defeating evil and more about understanding the evil and coming back from the darkness that may surround you. The vampire zombies that come through the fountain are misunderstood at first and you'll see that story unfold throughout the book.

I am so happy that I was able to go on another adventure with my Nerd Herd & if the next book is the end.. then I will accept that and move on (and by move on, I mean reread the entire series over and over). But, if P.C Cast and Kristen Cast decide to keep the Nerd Herd adventures coming, then I will GLADLY accept each and every one of them with open arms and an open mind. Thank you for allowing me to visit the HoN again and I can not wait to go back.

I was so worried about how this book would go. I read the original series as it came out but I was also a teenager and honestly didn’t have much of a reading taste at the time outside of just general fantasy. I remember the series in a nostalgic way and honestly was worried I remembered it wrong and was about to read something I’d hate which would have me questioning the original 12 books.
BUT it was great! There were definitely parts that I didn’t necessarily enjoy or little things on how things were written that bothered me initially but overall once I was able to pick up the book and relax I devoured it and couldn’t stop thinking about it. One thing I remember loving about this series was how past paced everything was and that continued into this book.
I’m also very grateful for the general recap at the begging because I honestly didn’t even realize how long it had been since the original series ended and considering I picked this book up and then still didn’t read it right away there was a lot I didn’t fully remember. So recap was very much needed.
Overall I loved the hat they did with the begging of this series. All of our favorite characters are back and some surprises along with it. I honestly can’t wait to see what ends up unfolding in the rest of this small series. Who will we see what story lines will end up being told. I’m just excited.
