Brunos father is the commander of the German army and because of that he and his family are forced to move from berlin to poland, next to a concentration camp. in the beginning bruno this his new home is boring because he doesn’t have anyone to play with. although the that changes when bruno meets shmuel, a boy from the other side of the fence.

This heavy-handed book felt like it was written to introduce young non-Jewish white kids to the Holocaust and help them realize that injustice can be happening that they might not see. It was stilted, the main character was overly naive, and the author didn't do justice to writing about the Holocaust. There are many other books out there - such as Art Spiegelman's Maus or Anne Frank's Diary - that I would recommend instead for this reading level.

I had to read for school and I don't know not my fav. It was sad and kind of dark. I didn't like how repetitive it was and one of the main characters, Bruno, was really bad in my opinion I hated him. I don't know if I would really recommend if you want a good holocaust book I think you could find something better; I've heard from my friends a good holocaust book is The Devils Athematic
