It's about Susie Salmon, a girl who was brutally murdered, adjusting to her life in heaven. From her perspective, we see how her family copes with her death. The blunt and simple wording of everything makes the lines more impactful. However, it started to become less compelling to me after a while, even despite all the events occuring.

This book started out great, then it really struggled to keep my attention until the second to last chapter. I think part of it, quite honestly, is because the audiobook was read by the author and not a voice actor and therefore it was not interesting to listen to.

I found the writing overly metaphorical. It was very wordy, as well, for being not that long of a book. I also did not enjoy the mother’s story arc, and found it strange that only one character felt very strongly about her life choices.

Incredible book. I went into this thinking the plot was centered on Susie’s murder and catching the man that did it but that was barely a side plot in all honesty. Not at all what I expected but one of my favourite books I’ve ever read.
