I could not enter into the surrealist world enough to enjoy this, and it was too derivative for me as well. I mean, the personalities are ok and the “mystery” gets solved with a satisfying twist at the end but…the main mystery was predictable and the mental image of cats using cutlery and drinking tea and making curry was too much.

Was so excited to read this (it’s cats solving crimes, what’s not to love) but unfortunately the plot itself was non-existent and the writing felt hugely parodic - wasn’t sure if that was intentional? Either way, it didn’t work. Everything was so ridiculous and tongue-in-cheek that I mostly skim-read to the end just to finish it. The worst part was the blatant racism. How this got through the editors is beyond me but having a Jamaican character in a sarong lacing people’s food with drugs and referring to a murderer saying “not even the gypsies wanted to be friends with them” Was. Not. It. I’ve seen other review arguing that this book came out several years ago and that the racism can be excused - it was 2014, not the 1950s! Mandy Morton - do better.

I didn't know what kind of read this would he and at first I was a little worried that all characters were cats and no humans in sight! But I quickly got engaged and this was a successful mystery and the end even managed to shock me a bit. I got the next book in the series borrowed from the library as well so hopefully will get it soon before I have to return it.

This was such a fun read. I just heard a film noir monologue in my head as I read the narration…but with cat detectives.

nah. this book has some disgusting stereotypes. jamaicans can’t speak fluent english. asians eat cats. g*psies are all violent. then you have all the fat shaming. nope.

give it a pass.

also doesn’t help that the author wrote the most bizarre scenes. and the ending seemed to be recycled, constantly someones gets attacked, again and again. nope. not good.
