I guess it was fine. It could have been half the length if the author didn't waste so much time describing useless things with flowery wording. I don't see the point of the ghost or half of the characters either.

Great for fans of Once Upon A River, but much more dark and creepy. The audio book reader brings a lot of personality to the characters, but you have to really focus to understand everything going on. I think it's really well done, just not quite my cup of tea.

This was a book that checked all of my personal boxes. It had tactile descriptions, vivid world-building, a macabre plot, a female sleuth. Reading it felt like I was 12 and reading Harry Potter again, though I don't recommend this story to children younger than probably 14. It has magic and whimsy but it's also graphically violent in parts. Fantastic beach read if you're not afraid of monsters from the deep.

This book is soo good. Strange but good! Steeped in Irish Folklore and the crime of Victorian London it is truly atmospheric. Jess Kidd's writing is like nothing I have read before and it was truly gripping. I finished this within a day and my mind is reeling. The characters are all so fully developed and individual that even the side characters stick within your brain. The atmosphere is so vivid that it felt like I was in the grime and darkness of Victorian London. It is a modern gothic masterpiece in writing!
