This book came with a lot of hype and I've got to say, the writing is tight and well done. I listened to the audio book and the reader was excellent. In fact, she's the only reason why I kept listening. However I did NOT enjoy the seemingly back and forth to the story telling as it was very hard to know when that shift was made. In other words, I was like, "What? How did she get there?" or "What did I miss?" etc. It was not readily apparent or obvious that a time shift (and there were many) was made and it was very disconcerting. The other point was the gore and violence. That is a personal like/dislike and yet, if it wasn't for the time shift in the writing I would probably have given it a 4 just for the narration alone. Lastly, I hate violence against innocent animals and children. Totally not necessary, although maybe in this case it does lend itself to the main character's development.
