I don't usually read romance, but I got this free from Kindle First (all the other selections looked depressing, and I didn't want to turn down a free book!). It was entertaining enough - but I can't say I remember much about it a few days later. Not being a regular reader of romance, I'm not entirely sure, but it seems fine for the genre. I'm thinking maybe I should start, though - there are an awful lot of free romances via Amazon Prime and my local library's e-reader selections, so maybe it is a cheap way to get my light reading fix? Especially since I like historical fiction?

It was a nice read. Every time I put the book down, I would find myself thinking about the fate of the characters. This was my first Amazon prerelease and I couldn't be more satisfied.

I'm a fan! I totally loved this book, and I am super glad that I accidentally found it. It was a wonderfully written historical romance with a couple twists that helped it stand out and suck me right in. I definitely want more like this one! I will be looking at all this author writes! Giles' journey was fun to follow and I was rooting for him the whole time. I enjoyed Avery and wished I could have more of her, she was a brilliant character and my only complaint is was it was too short, I loved it that much! The only reason it took me so long to read, was that I had so many other books I promised to read stuck in, and I had to stop to get them done, otherwise I didn't want to put it down!

I found this book tone a light entertaining read constructed in a traditional romance plot approach.
WHAT I LIKED
------------
* Both the male and female lead were fun and likable
* The male lead finds more than just the female lead's body desirable.
* The dialogue is smart and fun
* The sex was well-written, and the connection between the characters felt real.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
-----------------
* The story was a little to "traditional romance" for my taste -- woman pretends to be a man, woman finds herself in danger and is rescued by the man, woman is a virgin while man is a rake, the man is only publicly a rake but really has a heart of gold. It's all well-told, but I like my pure romances to buck some stereotypes.
I recommend this for folks who like traditional romances and want some fast-reading entertainment.

Good fun. I loved the concept - not only girl-masquerading-as-boy-to-fulfill-dreams but also SPIES! The writing got a little clunky and the characters a little flat by the end, but the concept was awesome.

Closer to 2.5 stars, not bad but I was excited to read a blurb about a lady astronomer, I wanted more to come of it, maybe she could have made plans to open a ladies academy after Avery and Giles married

It was a nice light read. Giles and avery are lovely characters. Avery especially was different (and this was her attraction for giles). Her secondary characters always have depth as well. The plot worked well; there were only a few contrivances. However, despite Brockway doing an excellent job with back story and character motivation and plot development, it felt almost "light." not sure why. she could have taken longer to reveal Giles real character rather than get it all in one conversation. I thought she did an excellent job developing avery and avery's trying to understand who Giles really was...and avoiding the typical "misunderstanding" altogether.
