Holt and Wrens love sorry is adorable, the suspense was great but the showstopper of this book was side characters like Nash , Laurence, and  Joe ( who made me want to cry)

I enjoyed most of this one. Second chance romance with a little mystery element plaguing the town — the romance part was a little easy (I still don’t buy his excuse for disappearing the first time 🫠). The villain surprised me but I think I may have missed the development of that character, and I definitely didn’t see the accessory coming! Mild spice, loved Andi and Jacob/Zachary. For me, the romance was absolutely secondary and I wasn’t that invested — I wanted more of the friendship and the family!

" But when you turned off the pain, you turned off the pleasure."

I couldn't have put it any better than Wren to emphasize what she and Holt did to survive throughout their breakup.

“She has my heart. My soul. Everything that’s good in me. She’s where I feel peace.”

Whispers of You completely wrecked my heart in the worst way possible and then put it back together. It's one of the most heartbreaking second chance romances I have ever read. I lost count of how many times I cried reading this book.

Catherine did an astounding job with how she interweaved the romance with the mystery plot. This was my first book by Catherine Cowles and it's no surprise that she became an auto-buy author for me. Her writing is simple and captivating and it breaks your heart with the way she delved deeply into the emotional and tragic lives of Wren and Holt. The plot kept me hooked and kept on guessing who is the real person behind that tragic incident and the reveal in the end? Never expected that!

“Not going to pretend I’m not in love with you, Wren. Missed touching you. Sometimes, I’d be walking and swear I felt your hand in mine.”

This book was an intense roller-coaster ride. The story is about Wren and Holt—childhood sweethearts broken by a tragic event that changed their lives and the lives of people in Cedar Ridge. It's a story about young love and how a tragedy can destroy lives of the people you loved. It's about picking up the broken pieces of your heart. It's about forgiving yourself and moving on. It's about fighting your demons and giving another chance to love.

Usually, second chance romance books are written in past and present timelines to give more insight to character's relationship and the development but Catherine wrote this book only in present pov and still the chemistry and the romance is everything you want in a book.

➸ Wren Williams

Wren is a survivor and a warrior who picked herself up after the devastating accident that happened to her. She maybe soft and caring but there is resilience in her. I respect and love her so much for all she had done in her life and the choices she made. Even after going through a tragic event and losing the love of her life at the same time, she picked herself up and made a life for herself helping the people in their town in their most helpless moments. I loved that she turned her trauma and pain into something good for herself and for others. And when Holt came back in her life again after a decade she tried her best to give them a second chance at their love even though it was the hardest thing for her to do.

“Both of us trying not to miss a single thing. Because a fear still lived down deep; one that told me the whispers of him would be all I ever had.”

➸ Holt Hartley

Holt is the protector— the man with the golden heart. There's no other way to describe him. He's kind and loyal to fault and he would do anything in his power to save and provide for the people he loves but that also means that he thinks he's not deserving of all the good things in his life and the reason why left Wren because he thinks he failed her. His need to run away from his demons and memories were stronger and my heart broke for him when he felt responsible for what happened to Wren. I really loved how he even though he was there in town again, he didn't tried to approach Wren until she felt comfortable with him in her life again. The way he protected her with life everytime and the way he loves her is so admirable. This man is a keeper!

“When life hit hard, you were the only person I wanted, the only place I wanted to be. You, more than anything, were home.”

╰┈➤ Holt and Wren

Everything about them is so pure, genuine and truly beautiful. Their story is devastating and Catherine knows how to make me cry because THE ROMANCE? THE LONGING? THE PINING?? THE ANGST?? THE PAIN???? Everything hurts so good. There was so much love and history between these two and the way they love each other is just so beautiful and it makes me go all emotional. They have been through too much but they were always together—the highs and lows, tragedies and pain. The spark, the chemistry, the burning need to just be in each other's arm and love each other is still there even after not seeing each other for a decade.

“I missed that sound.”
“My laugh?”
She nodded, her fingers ghosting over my throat. “I thought I’d have all your chuckles. That I’d know what it sounded like at every stage of life.”

I liked how they navigated their feelings for each other while also trying to forgive each other for what happened 10 years ago. Holt making sure Wren felt safe and loved and Wren trying to help Holt to stop punishing himself for the tragedy that destroyed them. I liked their relationship development and the way Holt earned Wren's trust and her love again. And what I really liked the most was that he didn't started anything with her until he knew he is in it with Wren for forever. I have never rooted for two people this much in my life and that just shows how precious these two are to me!

“Say it again.”
“I love you.”
“The next part,” he growled, his words sending vibrations across my face.
“I never stopped loving you.”
Emotion filled Holt’s eyes, the dark blue turning to a color I couldn’t identify. A single tear slipped free and landed on my cheek. “Never thought I’d hear those words again.”

The ending chapters were filled with action and painful moments. And ofcource I didn't suspect the real villain. There is no third-act breakup, just a beautiful ending. I love love love the epilogue and the bonus epilogue so much! Holt and Wren planning for their new life and making all their dreams come true in real life

Had me at the first page. The angst between Wren and Holt tore at my heart strings so much but I loved getting to see them fall in love all over again. The suspense of finding out about who was killing the survivors had me on the edge of my seat too! Overall amazing book, the only thing I didn’t like was how they got together. I wish it would’ve been after the scare because it felt misplaced in the sense.
