This honestly felt like a Wattpad fanfic. It was so horribly rushed. No one had depth, the growth didn’t feel organic. It didn’t feel original at all, it seemed like the stayed in exact sync with the Disney movie. All the men in the book, other than her dying father, seemed super rapey and problematic. I really hoped that I would like this since it has such high reviews, but, I’m not a fan.

It’s always interesting to see how authors write Beauty and the Beast retellings, what they change, what they keep the same. Jack Harbon had an interesting take, especially the fact that the beast is actually a beast, which is very different from most retellings! I enjoyed Isla’s character and how she doesn’t let Beast get away with anything. Overall I enjoyed this novella and look forward to reading more of Jack Harbon’s books.

It's good for what it was. Fun little nods to the Disney story while elevating it for your +18 audience. A quick read and a lovable beast, but I wish we would have witnessed more of the angry beast to make his turn around more pronounced.

This is like if the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast got remixed with OG Grimm's Fairy Tales vibes--it got way more violent than I expected, but it was an extremely satisfying and cathartic kind of violence. I would read the content warnings for this one, but apart from that, it's quite sweet and elevates itself beyond a Stockholm Syndrome romance. Isla has a backbone of steel and knows her worth and the Beast's transformation isn't physical, but in how much he comes to care for her and is ready to let her walk away from him if that's what she needs to be happy and whole. The more I think about it, the more I like what it achieved.

That.. was certainly interesting. I like that Isla got to be vicious. I like that it wasn't all sunshine and (ha ha) roses. Guess I was expecting more of an re-imagining rather than a retelling. Was very predictable but worth the hour it took to read.

I just...I’m VERY VERY picky with Beauty and the Beast retellings because it is my favorite fairy tale and this just....yeah nope I’m sorry. I forced myself to read through this because it is a novella. But it was almost torture. I just didn’t like the characters at all. A lot of eye rolling and frustration. What makes me more mad is that I actually was pulled in a bit by the sample! And it just fell apart for me.
