If I had to give an average rating of the overall book (at least the part that I read), it would be two stars. While I enjoyed some of the tales, they were just way too dry for my taste. Some were too short and left me wanting more detail. They ended abruptly, and I had to go back and make sure I didn't miss some pages before starting the next story in the series.

I do think the stories were grouped nicely. But I just couldn't force myself to go on. Reading this nearly put me in a coma.

I'm glad I only spent 99 cents on this book.

Presented by order of the Wheel of the Year, beginning with the Winter Solstice, this is a charming collection of tales set around the British and Irish landscape that encourage your love of nature to flourish.

Centered around all things botanical, with some tales taking a traditional approach and others adapted for our rapidly changing world, Schneidau is a natural storyteller. From the botanical spin on the classic fairytale of Cinderella to whimsical and fantastically creative tales featuring the likes of a ferocious river that can only be tamed by flowers, there is something for everyone.

With a simple structure that works well with bedtime reading, or to dive in and read all at once, these folk tales have proved a timely choice of inspired reading as the UK slowly turns itself over into the pleasant times of Spring.
