I have rapidly become a Becky Chambers fan girl. She manages to take dense science fiction concepts, like how we defined sentient beings and the ethics of artificial intelligence and labor, and make them feel like a conversation about humanity and individuals. She is a master of characters and such a gift to this genre.

 I enjoyed it, but I liked The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet much more. I think because this novel was not what I was expecting. I thought we were going to still be following the whole crew, but instead we get Lovey's continuation and a background on a few characters alongside the current timeline. It was intriguing, but I wanted the main plotline. My expectations did not match up with what the book produced, and that might be due to the fact I did not read anything about what the book was going to be about before starting it because it was a sequel.
