A very enjoyable collection! Definitely would recommend to people who want to try and read “big” names (Faulkner, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Fitzgerald…) without committing to long works.

My favorite stories were:
- Champion by Ring Lardner
- Silent Snow, Secret Snow by Conrad Aiken
- The Happiest Man on Earth by Albert Maltz
- A Tree. A Rock. A Cloud by Carson McCullers

I would also mention:
- The Romance of Rosy Ridge by MacKinlay Kantor, for being reminiscent of Western literature with a particular insistence on Reconstruction era
- Profession: Housewife by Sally Benson, for being so sharp about being a stay-at-home wife in a consumerist society
- A Visit of Charity by Eudora Welty, for being so eerie in a fairytale way

Some stories were better than others. I'm glad I read this collection of short stories, but this is one I dont need to reread in the future.
