Did not love this book, though I was glad to see an autistic character not portrayed as a savant or maths lover.
However, the plot takes ages to get going, and then it all happens suddenly, without any suspense or anything at all. Blurb talks about cryptic messages - there's only one.
Whole plot is explained by one character in middle of book.
Maisie has an odd way of talking, like a small adult, but other times she gets confused. It didn't feel realistic for her to have such a wide vocabulary (whilst sounding a little stiff) yet get confused over the simplest word meanings at the age of 12!
Her constant explanation of sensory issues also felt a little forced - most kids don't particularly realise their responses to things are 'different' so would not bother explaining them. Felt a little too forced a little too many times.
Bad guy talks like a bad comic book character. Some bits of book were useless and not related to plot, so not sure why they were there.
